Project 365 – Day 46

day46-10Liam finally decided to lay down in the pool today. He even splashed around a bit and tried to “swim”. I also got my new lens that I will be renting until the end of our trip to Michigan in two days. I got a Tamron 24-70 2.8, which is very similar to my current 28-75 2.8. However, so far I have found that the image quality is awesome. Not that the 28-75mm wasn’t good, but I can tell that the 24-70mm is definitely better. The other thing I noticed so far is that the 24-70mm weighs a lot more too. It will be fun to play around with a new lens at work tomorrow. Hopefully it will make my last day before vacation go quickly.day46-1 day46-2 day46-3 day46-4 day46-5 day46-8 day46-9 day46-11

Project 365 – Day 45

day45-13Today was another day spent by the kiddie pool. We got Liam a pair of crocs in hopes that we can make to one of the splash pads in town. He wore them for quite a bit this evening but eventually wanted them off because he didn’t want them to get “soaking wet”. We also got him to eat a hamburger today (he’s been really picky lately and not eating things that he normally likes) but telling him that it was a veggie burger. He ate a lot more than he normally would have and loved it. Maybe we’ll try a real veggie burger sometime soon.day45-2 day45-3 day45-4 day45-5 day45-6 day45-7 day45-8 day45-9 day45-10 day45-11 day45-12 day45-14

Project 365 – Day 44

day44-1I have a lot more photos that I would love to add, but I promised Stephen a game night tonight so I’m going to keep it short. Liam was trying to shoot the bubbles with the squirt gun this afternoon while we played by the pool. As a bonus, here is the silliest pose I have ever seen him do. day44-2

Project 365 – Day 43

day43-18This morning we had Liam’s gym show. It’s nothing big, but they have the kids do all of their gymnastics and at the end they get a trophy. I’m really impressed with how much he has improved over the last year. He really looks forward to it every week. After gym, we went to Lewis Ginter again. It has been raining for 3 days straight so it was great to get outside. Plus all the flowers were covered in raindrops so it made for some amazing photos.day43-1 day43-2 day43-3 day43-4 day43-5 day43-6 day43-7 day43-8 day43-9 day43-10 day43-11 day43-12 day43-13 day43-14 day43-20 day43-21 day43-22 day43-23

Project 365 – Day 42

day42-1It has been rainy and cloudy for most of the week. So I apologize for the same general style of photo the last few days. But I won’t apologize for the amazing light that I’ve had. I have grown quite fond of dramatic light and today is no exception. I promise next week or maybe even tomorrow I vary it up some more. But for now, appreciate the drama.day42-2 day42-3 day42-4 day42-5

Project 365 – Day 41

day41-1Liam really wanted to color this morning before breakfast. I didn’t mind too much since he actually slept in some today. I guess we’ll have to get some black out curtains because he seems to always sleep later when it’s cloudy outside.day41-2 day41-3

Low Light. Why I love my Canon 6D

Last year when I first started working in the hospitals as a newborn photographer, I knew that I would be in the market for a new camera. I had a decent one and as we all know, it’s not the camera but the person behind it who makes the photo. But I needed something that had a little more capabilities than my Canon Rebel T2i. I looked at several different options but I finally settled on a Canon 6D.

There were a few reasons why I choose this camera over others. One reason was because it was a full frame sensor. Basically what that means is that when you put a 35mm lens on the camera, the sensor will see the full 35mm. On a crop sensor (like the Rebel T2i) it literally crops the image within the camera so you’re not always getting the whole picture. Of course there are times when a crop sensor is a great feature to have, but I was really looking for the full frame at the time for portraits.

The other reason why I choose the 6D was because of its ISO capabilities. Seriously this camera is a dream. Never had I imagined shooting at 2500 ISO or higher and barely have any noise within the photo. The last two photos from my Project 365 are examples of what I’m talking about. I would have never been able to accomplish the same result with the Rebel T2i. And when I’m in the hospital and there isn’t much light to work with sometimes, the higher ISOs come in handy. I still have to use my flash occasionally, but I really love when I can just use the light that is available. day39-1 day38-5

Project 365 – Day 39

day39-1One of my favorite things to do as a child was a to build a HUGE fort in the living room. Apparently Liam has inherited that same love. It’s been awhile since we built one at the house, but I think he’s thoroughly enjoying it on this hot/humid day. day39-2
